Earthquake Safety Walk Walkathon


As one of the main event for 16th Earthquake Safety Day celebration, Earthquake Safety Walkathon was organized today on January 11, 2014. This memorable event was organized in the historic city of Kirtipur. This event was jointly organized by the Government of Nepal, Kirtipur Municipality, ONUS Nepal, Nepal Red Cross Society and further supported by Lumanti and NSET.

Honorable CA Member from Kathmandu Constituency 10, Mr. Rajan KC as the chief guest inaugurated the event with an introductory speech about the program and later, after cutting the ribbon with admirable zeal he officially started the “Earthquake Safety Walkathon”. Government Officials, Armed Police Force representatives’, students, DRR professionals, volunteer’s from Lumanti, community people and many from different walks of social lives joined the awareness raising event. In total 265 participants walked along the historic city of Kirtipur. Participants joined this noble cause carrying placards of Earthquake Safety messages spreading awareness and sensitizing the local people along with propagating the message of Earthquake damage prevention, precaution and safety promotion.

The Walkathon’s official route was : Kirtipur Bus Park-Panga Dobato-Chiku Planning- Dokasi- Lache-Sikuche-Nagaoun-Nagaoun Dobato-Nepal Telecom-Khasibazar-Sagal-Samal-Layaku Durbar-Baghbhairab Temple-Chithu Bihar-Tahnani-Tujho-Kirti Bihar-Kirtipur Buspark.

After completing the walk, organizers shared their quick views on the event and also extended vote of thanks to all participating organizations and individuals. Lastly 5 Lucky Winners via random picking got awarded with attractive prizes (“Earthquake Go Bag”) for their active participation.
