Workshop on “Constructing Earthquake Resistant Buildings; Challenges and Opportunities of Trained Masons”
NSET in association with Kathmandu Earthquake Resistant Building Construction Technicians Group (KERBCTG) organized an experience sharing workshop on “Constructing Earthquake Resistant Buildings, Challenges and Opportunities of Trained Masons” during 22-23 May 2014 at SAP Falcha, BabarMahal, in order to identify the challenges faced by the trained mason and to explore the opportunities of constructing earthquake resistant buildings. The main objective of the workshop was to enhance the capacity of the trained masons and to develop consensus on the solutions of four to six major problem that have been troubling trained masons to incorporate earthquake resistant components in residential buildings. Altogether 50 trained masons attended the two day workshop and worked intensively towards developing consensus and the next steps to be taken for the effective implementation of the earthquake resistance construction techniques.
The closing ceremony of the workshop was graced by the presence of Mr. Shambhu K.C., DG, Department of Urban Development and Building Construction (DUDBC), Mr. Moti Bhakta Shrestha, Social Welfare Officer, Bhaktapur Municipality and Mr. Shiva Bahadur Pradhanang, President of NSET.
