NSET into soul searching and introspection

NSET is completing 20 years of establishment this year having gone through a journey, which has contributed in multiple dimensions towards achievement of its major objectives through incremental improvements in its strategic implementations and operations all these years.

We have grown – as an institution, as a family - and we’ve learnt. At this stage, NSET feels a need to get into introspection to achieve a better clarity on its strategic intent and maneuverings for devising its further roles and responsibilities which matches with global, national and organizational requirements. NSET wished to indulge itself into assessment of its organizational core – which includes its vision, mission, objectives and strategies – for which, it felt the need to design and implement strategic assessment procedure.

With this backdrop, on the occasion of forthcoming anniversary, as a first step towards our renewed soul searching and introspection, NSET decided to conduct workshop among its management team members – core decision makers at strategic, departmental and program level, which focusing on organizational self-assessment that helps in building unified understanding about answers to “WH” questions related to our organization, our strategies, our operations, our policies, our capabilities, strengths and weaknesses.

The workshop titled “ORGANIZATIONAL STRATEGIC ASSESSMENT” held during June 7-8, 2014 paid hard group efforts to assess understanding of organizational core in terms of its vision, mission and strategies and build unified understanding related to the same, to assess gap in Vision, Mission, Objective, Strategies and Tactics on the basis of organizational learning gathered so far and in relation to emergent environmental issues with respect to the field of Earthquake Risk Management (ERM), to assess Strengths and Weaknesses of the organization and prioritize them in order of relevance to achievement of its current strategic objectives, to assess Opportunities and Threats and prioritize them in order of potential and degree of severity, utilizing the findings and analysis done to evaluate current strategies and devise better strategic choices, to identify Critical Success Factors (CSFs) for achievements of its vision, mission and strategic objectives and what should be Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that the organization and its team should strive for, to assess the organizational design and its effectiveness in achievement of organizational goals/objectives; and also to find the areas of improvements in organizational capabilities and cascading them to capabilities of individual departments/projects/teams.

The process was facilitated/ moderated by experts from Three H Management, a 360 degree management consulting firm. The team has now rushed into consolidating the ideas and reflections flooded to compose into a Final Report, and that should trigger to further steps of incremental improvements.
