Training Workshop for local government leadership of province no.5,6 and 7 held in Birendranagar, Surkhet
The second round of Training Workshop for local government leadership including Mayors/Deputy Mayors, Ward chairs and senior municipal officials on effective implementation of building under NSET/Technical Support for Building Code Implementation in Nepal (TSBCIN) accomplished in Surkhet District on September 22, 2018.
The two-day event saw the participation of around 60 people including Mayors, Deputy Mayors, Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs), and Chief Engineers of around 17 municipalities from Karnali province, province no.5 and 7.
The program was organized to discuss and share the experiences and ideas for effective implementation of building code, promote uniformity in the Building Permit System in the municipalities, find ways to streamline the building permit process, and sensitize them on implementation of Urban Development Strategy, Shelter Development and Building Act among others.
Speaking at the concluding ceremony of the two-day program, Minister for Social Development of Karnali Province (Province no.6), Mr. Dal Rawal expressed hope that the learnings of the two-day program could contribute on effective implementation of earthquake safety measures in the respective local units.
Addressing the ceremony, Ms. Reenu Thapaliya, Section Officer at Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, highlighted the need of expanding the effective implementation practices of Building Code in all the units of local government.
Also, speaking at the program, Mr. Surya Narayan Shrestha, Executive Director of National Society of Earthquake Technology-Nepal (NSET) emphasized on the need of ensuring earthquake safety measures in construction practice by the municipalities and by its leadership.
This is the 2nd series of training workshop organized for the local government leadership. Earlier, a similar workshop was held in Dharan, Sunsari District for the local leadership of province no. 1, 2 and 3 where total of 40 people had participated in the training workshop.
The program was jointly organized by USAID/OFDA funded NSET/TSBCIN program and Birendranagar Municipality under directives of Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration (MOFAGA) and Department of Urban Development and Building Construction (DUDBC).
