The Program:
The activities suggested in the Kathmandu Valley Earthquake Risk Management Action Plan were implemented in this project. NSET has implemented this project since 2000 with the funding support from Office of the Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) of the USAID. Improving seismic safety of Kathmandu Valley was the broader objective of the project and improving seismic safety of public schools, residences and public infrastructures as well as institutionalizing earthquake risk management in Kathmandu were the specific objectives. Implementing the School Earthquake Safety Program (SESP), assisting in enhancing structural and non-structural safety of public institutions, providing technical assistance to the municipalities for implementing seismic building code, conducting training programs for masons, technicians, engineers, business community, and conducting free and mobile earthquake clinics for the house owners were some of the key activities of the project.
