With the expansion of scope of works, NSET has been involved now in various disaster risk management initiatives in Nepal and beyond working closely with Government of Nepal and other stakeholders. NSET is working in the improvement of earthquake risk information of the country and providing decision-makers with risk metrics that account for the expected evolution of the built environment through the FORCE (Forecasting and Communicating Earthquake Risk) Project, a 2.5-year (October 2022 to March 2025) initiative funded by the USAID/BHA office and executed by the Global Earthquake Model (GEM) Foundation.
Likewise, in order to fulfill the current funding gap for shelter arrangement such as temporary or transitional shelter for the affected population of Rautahat Fire, NSET is implementing the Shelter Support to Fire Affected Family in Rautahat with the funding support of Start Fund Network (SFN). Similarly, NSET is providing basic services by rebuilding damage houses and infrastructures due to Doti and Bajura Earthquake at the western Nepal in Nov. 2022 and Feb 2023 by providing socio-technical support to house-owner and local government. In addition to this, NSET is implementing a research project, Sajag-Nepal: Planning and preparedness for the mountain hazard and risk chain in Nepal, funded by UK Global Challenges Research Fund: Multi-Hazards and Systemic Risks. It is a multi-disciplinary project, designed as an equitable partnership between practitioners, government, and academics from Nepal. Further, NSET is working in constructing an earthquake resistant model school building as a demonstration project in Godawari Municipality, Kailali District, Sudurpaschim Province of Nepal in collaboration with Geo-Hazard International (GHI). In collaboration with Kageshwori Manohara Municipality, NSET has involved in construction of a prototype school block that is resting on low-cost seismically isolated foundation with funding support from the University of Bristol, United Kingdom through extension of a research project called "Safer Build." This is an extension of a research project “Seismic Safety and Resilience of Schools in Nepal (SAFER)” which was implemented in the past. On the top of that, as consortium partner, NSET is implementing a project "Tomorrow's Cities (TC)" which is the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) Urban Disaster Risk Hub-a global interdisciplinary research hub with the aim to support the delivery of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals and priorities 1 to 3 of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) 2015-2030. The goal of Tomorrow’s Cities Research Hub is to catalyze a transition from crisis management to multi-hazard risk-informed planning and decision-making that strengthens the voice and capacity of the urban poor in tomorrow’s cities through the Tomorrow’s Cities Decision Support Environment (TCDSE).
