Makati City hosted CityNet Disaster Cluster Seminar
The 15th CityNet Disaster Cluster Seminar (15th CNDC)  has been held in Makati city in Philippines during June 7-8, 2023. The CNDC was hosted by Makati City as a Lead of CityNet Disaster Cluster. Ms. Mar-Len Abigail S. Binay, Mayor from Makati City Government had welcomed the participants.

The seminar was the first step towards strengthening the engagement of the cluster members, so that they become resilience leaders in their own ways with a higher purpose of influencing other cities and organizations, whether members of CityNet or not, towards achieving the climate and disaster resilience goals of SDG, SFDRR, and COP21/COP25. As the first major cluster activity under new leadership, this seminar launched and gathered inputs on the Disaster Cluster Plan for 2023-2026. 

The event also included field observation in two Barangays of Makati and Earthquake Simulation exercise.

From Nepal, Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan from Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Mayor Dhan Raj Acharya from Pokhara Metropolitan City, Mayor Gopal Hamal Hamal from Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City, Planning Officer Mr. Bishnu Paudel from Tansen Municipality and Dr. Ganesh Kumar Jimee from NSET participated in the Seminar. Nepali participants shared DRRM experiences from Nepal and thoughts for future strategies. 

NSET serves as Co-lead for Disaster cluster.

More than 130 city leaders, experts and DRR stakeholders representing from Asia Pacific region and beyond participated the event. 

The 16th CNDC has been declared to be held in Taiwan. 

CityNet, established in 1987, is the largest association of urban stakeholders for sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region. Currently, CityNet has 154 cities and organizations associated as Full, Associate and Corporate members. NSET is working as Hosting Organization for CityNet Nepal National Chapter (CNNC) that was established in 2002.
