🎯 Objectives

The program aimed to:

  • Provide a comprehensive understanding of Himalayan geology and landslide‑prone factors.
  • Introduce InSAR (Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar) technology for monitoring active faults and landslides.
  • Train participants in landslide investigation, monitoring, and analytical methods.
  • Discuss Nepal‑specific challenges such as earthquake‑triggered and rainfall‑triggered landslides.
  • Build capacity among young researchers and practitioners in South and Southeast Asia for effective hazard mitigation.

 

👥 Participation

  • 30 participants representing researchers, professionals, and faculty from South Asia, Southeast Asia, and beyond.
  • Participants included attendees from Nepal, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Russia, and others.
  • Targeted mainly young and mid‑career professionals in geology, hazard analysis, and disaster mitigation.

 

📈 Training Highlights

  • Scientific lectures on seismic hazard evaluation, landslide processes, radar remote sensing, and fault mechanics.
  • Practical sessions: laboratory shear tests, monitoring techniques, risk assessment.
  • Field trip to major landslide sites in Sindhupalchowk, including the Jure landslide.
  • Group proposal presentations and discussions for future collaboration.
