Earthquake Orientation, Drill and Emergency Response Trainings Conducted for CIMMYT
The National Society for Earthquake Technology - Nepal (NSET) provided technical assistance to CIMMYT- International in order to train their Kathmandu central office staff and field staff in emergency response skills.
NSET conducted the orientation program, including the drill, at CIMMYT's office on the 14th of July. After participating in the orientation program and drill, the attendees understood the importance of emergency response skills, and had good foundation to work from in the three training programs they would complete on the following days. CIMMYT staff undertook one day Light Search And Rescue (LSAR-1001), one day Basic Emergency Medical Response (BEMR-1001) and one day Damage Assessment Training (DAT-1001), conducted at NSET's premises from the 15th to the 17th of July.
Altogether, there were 29 participants (24 male and 5 female) who were involved in the orientation and drill program and 28 participants (28 male and 4 female) who were trained during the response trainings. Upon completion, participants recognized the importance of their new skills in their daily lives as well as for disasters. The country representative of CIMMYT further encouraged the participants to spread their new knowledge to the community.
