Climate Change and Environmental Awareness Campaign held in Mahalaxmi Municipality
With the view to raise awareness about climate change and promote environmental conservation, an impactful environmental awareness campaign has been successfully held in Mahalaxmi Municipality on February 14, 2025. This initiative was the result of a strong collaboration between Eco-Clubs of public schools in Mahalaxmi Municipality, the Municipality, USMN (Universal Solidarity Movement Nepal) from St. Xavier College, and the Safe School Program implemented by National Society for Earthquake Technology-Nepal (NSET) with the funding support from UNICEF.
The campaign aimed to engage students, teachers, and the local community in sustainable practices such as proper waste management, waste segregation, and plantation. With the active participation of 170 students from nine public schools and St. Xavier college, the event included placard displays, public pledge collection, and a rally to spread eco-friendly messages. Volunteers from USMN and the Municipality helped ensure the smooth running of the event.
The Eco-Club students, who were dedicated to environmental conservation, displayed their creativity through placards and artwork, drawing attention to the importance of sustainable practices.
The rally, which started at the Municipality office and ended at Shree Siddhi Mangal Secondary School, was primarily joined by students and security was provided from Municipality. Residents and Municipality officials also take the pledges in signing to reduce plastic waste and promote composting at home.
In the closing remarks, the Vice Principal of Shree Siddhi Mangal Secondary School emphasized the need for continuous public awareness initiatives, stressing that Eco-Clubs play a vital role in fostering environmental responsibility. He thanked the Municipality, Eco-Clubs, USMN, and the Safe School Program for their collaboration and commitment to a greener future and climate friendly activities.
This campaign has set a strong foundation for future environmental initiatives in Mahalaxmi Municipality, creating a positive momentum for sustainable practices in the community.
