Lalitpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry to enhance disaster resiliency
Discourse has been commenced to enhance the disaster resiliency of Commerce and Industry sector stakeholders associated with Lalitpur Chamber Of Commerce and Industry (LCCI). From the disaster risk management perspectives, private sector entities have a two-fold role in building resilience in their businesses and contributing as a part of corporate social responsibility in enhancing community resilience.
Speaking at the opening of a half-day interactive presentation session on "Earthquake Risk of Nepal and Need for Preparedness of Lalitpur Chamber Of Commerce and Industry", Mr. Ajarman Joshi, President of LCCI, in his welcoming speech appreciated the initiation taken by NSET for collaborating with LCCI for its active involvement towards disaster risk reduction of the private sector. He said that Nepal stands on the seismic vulnerability zone and the business sector would be highly affected in case of a big earthquake in Nepal in a view to its old infrastructure and mobilization of human resources involved in this sector. He highlighted that awareness programs are a must to the industrial sector stakeholders and management team to initiate the preparedness in order to mitigate the risk.
Mr. Birendra Shrestha, Member of LCCI briefed that LCCI would extend its cooperation in every aspect of DRR and would like to work with NSET and all concerned stakeholders to make private sector disaster resilient.
This was one of the awareness campaign program initiated by LCCI where more than 35 LCCI members participated and got oriented on earthquake risk of Nepal and need for preparedness. Mr. Surya Bhakta Sangachhe, Program Manager of 3PERM Program of NSET, presented briefly on the risk of earthquake and need for preparedness as well as highlighted the need for disaster recovery and business continuity plan for private sector stakeholders.
The floor was open for questions to discuss to find out the 'Ways Forward' to work together for disaster resilience of LCCI affiliated businesses and industries.
Mr. Sabin Shrestha, Secretary General of LCCI made his closing remarks by thanking the participants, guests, media professionals and especially USAID and NSET for taking initiative to ignite the private sector stakeholders to start preparedness activities and to mitigate the risk.
