Disaster Resilient Communities in Nepal by 2050

NSET signs MOU with Lalitpur Chamber of Commerce and Industries (LCCI)


Business community must come forward and work towards disaster risk reduction of the country to show that they are there not just for profit but for the betterment of the society at large as well as making the disaster resilient community where they operate their businesses. They must take part proactively in disaster risk reduction of the country and come up with more inclusive strategies to incorporate DRR as part of their businesses. From the disaster risk management perspectives, private sector entities have two-fold role in building resilience in their businesses and contributing as a part of corporate social responsibility in enhancing community resilience. In this regard, NSET has signed an MOU with LCCI to work together for making disaster resilient business community in Lalitpur District. LCCI is one of the first CCIs that NSET hast signed MOU with.

Mr. Ajar Man Joshi, President of LCCI and Dr. Amod Mani Dixit, Executive Director of NSET signed on MOU on behalf of LCCI and NSET respectively. Speaking at the MOU signing ceremony, Dr. Amod Mani Dixit, Executive Director of NSET highlighted the role of private sector in earthquake risk management, and the need for the private sector to make their family and their business safer through preparedness initiatives as well as development and implementation of Business Continuity Plan. He pointed out the importance of the cultural heritage site of Lalitpur District and the need for keeping them safe against disaster as it attracts global tourists coming to Nepal and contributes to the national economy. He also emphasized on the need of proactive role of LCCI to safeguard the traditional handicraft industry of Lalitpur as well as all other private sector businesses and to make them safer against disaster. He hoped to be working with LCCI in the days to come to implement disaster preparedness initiatives in Lalitpur district involving all private sector stakeholders to make sure that their businesses continue uninterrupted even after a large earthquake in Nepal.

Mr. Ajar Man Joshi, President of LCCI appreciated the initiation taken by NSET for collaborating with LCCI for its active involvement towards disaster risk reduction of private sector in Nepal. He told that he would take initiation to go ahead with sensitizing the private sector stakeholders associated with LCCI as well community people of Lalitpur District and other parts of Nepal as well. He also briefed that LCCI would extend its cooperation in every aspect of DRR and would like to work with Nepal government, NSET and all concerned stakeholders on making business community in Lalitpur disaster resilient and leave a positive message to encourage the same to others.

Mr. Shiva Bahadur Pradhanang, President of NSET handed over 'Earthquake Go-Bag" to LCCI President as a symbolic token of love for disaster preparedness.

Representatives from LCCI and NSET were present in the MOU signing ceremony held at NSET office at Bhaisepati, Lalitpur.
