World Habitat Day 2014 marked in Nepal
Government of Nepal, Department of Urban Development & Building Construction, Ministry of Urban Development In Collaboration with UN agencies, NGOs, INGOs, Media, Civil Society Networks & DRR stakeholders organized various programs to commemorate World Habitat Day (WHD) 2014. The Main event is organized in 13th October 2014 at DUDBC hall, Kathmandu. This year’s WHD theme is "Voices from Slums" and over the theme; various programs were organized to have policy discussions and sensitize public on slums' issues.
The full day conference organized on 13th October 2014 at DUDBC on the theme of "Voices from Slums". The conference was inaugurated by Mr. Arjun Kumar karki , Secretary , Ministry of Urban Development .During the inaugural session, UN Habitat Programme Manager Mr. Padma Sunder Joshi read out the messages of UN Secretary General Mr. Ban Ki-Moon. In the event, . Jagdish Chandra Pokharel, Former Vice Chairman, National Planning Commission,Under Secretary of DUDBC Mr. Suresh Prakash Acharya , Shambhu KC . Director General of DUDBC and Padma Sunder Joshi , Programme Manager from UN Habitat made key note speeches on Voices from Slums in the context of Nepal.
The Second session was focused on government efforts to settle families from slums areas in Kathmandu valley and Slum's issues from the perspective of experts and stakeholders. Mr. Budi Sagar Thapa, Chief of Division office, DUDBC, Kathmandu,Padma Sunder Joshi , Programme Manager of UN Habitat and Chairperson of Mahila Ekta Samaj Ms. Bimala Tamang presented the ongoing problems, findings and challenges over the slums' issues.
