HAN-Kanchanpur Chapter to enhance disaster resiliency of hotel sector business
The Hotel Industry in Nepal shares a major stake of national economy and is considered to have the highest local private sector investment in Nepal with the recorded investment of around Rs. 100 billion.
A half-day discourse held at Hotel Association Kanchanpur premises, Mahaendranagar, Kanchanpur District on Sunday, 02 Nov 2014 was focused on "Earthquake Risk of Nepal & Need for Preparedness of Hotel Industry". This is the fourth series of the discourse sessions being conducted jointly by HAN and NSET as a part of understanding between HAN and NSET to raise awareness of hotel sector stakeholders on earthquake risk and need of preparedness in all ten regional chapters of HAN.
Mr. Bir Bahadur Mahara, President of Hotel Association Kanchanpur made his welcome remarks. Mr. Tej Singh Karki, Past President as well as Chief Advisor of HAN-Kanchanpur was honored as the Chief Guest of the program. Mr. Jagdish Chandra Bhatta, General Secretary and Mr. Krishna Dutta Bhatta, Treasurer of HAN-Kanchanpur facilitated the program.
Mr. Kalyan Bista, PPP Specialist (3PERM/NSET) made the presentation on earthquake risk of Nepal and need of preparedness of hotel industry. He also emphasized on adherence to building codes for the new hotel constructions in Kanchanpur Distirct. He requested all the existing hotel/Guest House owners to act immediately on necessary disaster preparedness of the hotel sector business. He told that NSET would be happy to provide necessary technical assistance to those interested in conducting building assessment, development of BCP and DRR plans.
Established in BS 2047, Kanchanpur Hotel Association has more than 550 members consisting of Three Star Hotel, Deluxe Hotels, Tourist Hotels, Restaurants, Cottages, Casinos and Sweet Shops.
HAN-Kanchanpur expressed their happiness to hold such important interactive presentation session for the first time in Mahendranagar. Participants also expressed their interest to have further training on earthquake preparedness and they would request HAN for further coordination in this regard.
An interactive presentation session was jointly organized by Hotel Association – Kanchanpur and National Society for Earthquake Technology-Nepal (NSET) under promoting "Public Private Partnership for Earthquake Risk Management (3PERM) Program supported by USAID/OFDA.
