NAROS General Meeting elects Executive Committee, endorses new plan of action
The first Annual General Meeting of Nepal Amateur Radio Operator’s Society (NAROS) held on December 27, 2014 in Kathmandu, Nepal. The AGM has endorsed its plan of action to strengthen ham capacity of Nepal through advocacies, education and networking and also through exploring its massive use in mega-disaster emergencies. The General Meeting elected 8-member Executive Committee in the leadership of pioneer Nepali ham Mr. Satish Krishna Kharel, 9N1AA.
NAROS is the legitimate organization of Ham Radio Operators of Nepal registered with Government of Nepal. Ham has its long history in Nepal, that begins with Father Marshal Moran who first propagated ham waves from Nepal in 1950s. First lot of Nepali hams could come out only in 1990s after restoration of democracy. Nepal had only 5 9Nhams that got increased only in 2011 to 26. And 78 more are now added in 2014 that raises number of 9N hams slightly above 100 now.
“It is now so fascinating moment to see more ham enthusiasts actively engaged and much conducive environment created in Nepal to the use of ham. It all counts and recalls decade-and-decade long efforts on promoting ham in Nepal”, Satish 9N1AA expressed with some touchy testimonials.
President of NAROS Ad-hoc Committee Mr. Suresh Uprety, 9N1HA chaired this very historic edition of Annual General Meeting held in Hindole Hall, NSET. To start with, Vice President Mr. Tara Neupane, 9N1TN welcomed all the participating NAROS members and invitees from various agencies. NSET Executive Director Dr. Amod Mani Dixit, 9N1BB and DPNet President Prof. Dr. Bishal Nath Upreti, 9N1BU in their address to opening ceremony highlighted the need to promote ham for emergency communication in view of mega disaster events.
Meeting endorsed two reports, one presented by General Secretary Mr. Gaurish Krishna Kharel, 9N2AA that documents NAROS activities of past year and also proposes plan for the next; and second presented by Treasurer Ms. Kalpana Pokharel, 9N1MM. NAROs will next focus more on expanding endeavors on advocacies, awareness, education and networking. NAROS is planning to host SAARC level seminar to enhance regional connectivity and inter-operability. NAROS also plans to further more organized efforts through sub-committees on Technical and Home Brewing, Contest and Amateur Radio Direction Finding (ARDF), Communication and Promotion and Amateur Radio Emergency Communication, and Amateur Radio Policy and International Relations.
