Emergency Response Training to Medecins du Monde


MDM with technical assistance of NSET organized Light Search and Rescue (LSAR-1001), Basic Emergency Medical Response (BEMR-1001) and Damage Assessment (DAT-1001) Training for their entire staff and to their partner organization from 23rd to 25th February 2015 at NSET. These response trainings were designed for the capacity building on disaster risk reduction.

Altogether 24 participants with few observers were benefited from this training.

As a part of this training program, LSAR-1001 was conducted on 23rd February 2015. The participants were trained on various response skills such as Search technique, Victim extrication technique, Heavy object lifting, moving and stabilizing and extinguishing of fire using bucket bridged method. The participants also attained BEMR-1001 and DAT-1001 trainings which was scheduled on 24th and 25th February 2015 respectively.

In BEMR-1001 training, participants were oriented on complications and management of foreign body airway obstruction (FBAO), Burn, Bleeding and Shock along with hands on practice on Splinting and Bandaging.

In DAT-1001 training, participants were oriented on Building system and building typology in Nepal, Structural and non-structural part of a building, Damage pattern and the damage grade of the buildings. Where as in the practical session participants distinguished the grade and severity of damaged building observing the photographs provided and made a group presentation on their findings. Speaking at the closing ceremony country representative of MDM, Sophie BAYLAC highlighted the usefulness of such emergency response training for their organization and also mentioned that such training is also useful to other organizations as well. She also mentioned that MDM will be performing earthquake drill in the near future and will incorporate the skill learnt from this trainings during the drill.
