Disaster/Earthquake Risks & Preparedness Orientation to the members of Nepalgunj Chamber of Commerce & Industries (NCCI)
An awareness orientation on “Earthquake Risk Reduction and Preparedness Activities” was diffused to the members of Nepalgunj Chamber of Commerce & Industries (NCCI) on Wednesday, 18th March, 2015 at Nepalgunj, Banke. With technical aid from National Society for Earthquake Technology-Nepal (NSET), the entire session was locally coordinated by NCCI. Promoting Public-Private Partnership for Earthquake Risk Management (3PERM) program, supported by USAID/OFDA, is one of the core activities of NSET.
In the beginning of the session, the “Disaster/Earthquake Risk Reduction and Preparedness/Response Activities” presentation was covered by Mr. Surya Bhakta Sangachhe, Program Manager, 3PERM, NSET and Mr. Pradip Thapa, Civil Engineer, 3PERM, NSET. In addition to the urgent need of massive awareness raising on earthquake risks, the NSET presenters briefly talked about the need of disaster recovery of businesses, industries and their stakeholders in a post disaster scenario. The business owners were encouraged to set an example by developing an effective Business Continuity Plan (BCP) so that the critical functions of the businesses could be recovered quickly after a catastrophic event.
