Community volunteers trained on Earthquake Non-structural Mitigation
A group of community volunteers from wards no. 12 and 22 of Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City are now trained on various techniques of Earthquake Non-Structural Mitigation. National Society for Earthquake Technology-Nepal (NSET) and Shapla Neer Nepal conducted the three days Training of Trainers(ToT) program for the participants from ward number 12 and 22 of Lalitpur Metropolitan City in the date of 10- 12 January 2016.
On the Certificate handover ceremony, Chief of Earthquake Section, Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City Er. Ram Prasad Dhakal expressed happiness to see new lots of community volunteers with skills on earthquake non-structural mitigation.
NSET Deputy Executive Director Mr. Surya Narayan Shrestha shared the NSET experience of working with communities from Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City that has always been much purposeful and encouraging.
Country Representative of Shapla Neer Nepal Ms. Maki Miyahara expressed her confidence that community volunteers would devotedly apply the knowledge and skills in their homes and lives.
Among from the participants, Ms. Sama Shakya, participants from community of Lalitpur stated; “it’s our pleasure, we are really trained on NSM risk mitigation activities. Surely, we will apply trained skill on the practical liA group of community volunteers from wards no. 12 and 22 of Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City are now trained on various techniques of Earthquake Non-Structural Mitigation. NSET Specialist on Gender, Social and Environment Management and as a lead trainer Ms. Bhubaneshwori Parajuli mentioned “it was really a great opportunity and platform for the community volunteers who endeavored on the NSM mitigation activities”.
Through this program activity, altogether 24 participants (23 females and 1 male) were trained on non-structural mitigation techniques. Participants were from Community Disaster Risk Management Committees (CDMCs), Urban Health Volunteers, Civil Society, Social mobilizers of ward 12 and 22 of Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City. They were also taught on the causes of earthquake and its risk in Nepal along with the preparedness activities. The program mainly focused on the non-structural hazard and its mitigation on the practical basis.
