APF increases its trained emergency responders
Armed Police Force (APF) of Nepal recently added 24 trained personnel in Medical First Response (MFR) End Users Course, through the Program for Enhancement of Emergency Response (PEER) Stage 4 (2014-2019). PEER is funded by USAID/OFDA and implemented by National Society for Earthquake Technology-Nepal (NSET).
NSET, in partnership with APF, organized the MFR End Users Course from March 22-28, 2016, at APF Disaster Management Training Center in Kurintar, Chitwan District. The course was intended for the emergency responders of APF.
During the closing program, Dr. Amod Mani Dixit, NSET Executive Director and Chief of Party, PEER, stressed that maintaining the training standards is key to imparting and learning life-saving skills more effectively; and commended APF’s efforts in keeping up with PEER training standards. Mr. Michael Ernst, USAID/OFDA’s Regional Advisor for South Asia, special guest during the closing program, inspired the new graduates and instructors by highlighting their important role, being likened to a superhero with extraordinary responsibilities, is what the country needs. Chief Guest respected AIG Singh Bahadur Shrestha, Chief of APF Human Resource Development, in his speech, underscored the country’s increased realization for more technical expertise required for life saving job after the Gorkha Earthquake in April 2015. This felt need has led APF to strengthen its initiatives and thanked NSET and USAID/OFDA for the support in capacity building. Course monitor, course coordinator and a representative from the group of participants also delivered their impressions of the course.
