BaliyoGhar starts Second TOT in Nuwakot
To train the engineers deployed by the government in 'Build Back Safer' campaign, a Training of Trainers (TOT) has been started in Nuwakot. The training is conducted under USAID funded BaliyoGhar Program and jointly organized by Department of Urban Development and Building Construction (DUDBC), Division Office, Nuwakot and National Society for Earthquake Technology - Nepal (NSET).
The 5 day training activity focuses on the enhancement of skills and knowledge of engineers working in reconstruction. Altogether 34 new trainers are being trained, among them 27 engineers are from DUDBC-Nuwakot and 7 from NSET.
Most of the participants are willing to learn construction of better and safer houses and the teaching skills so that they will be able to facilitate the masons in their respective VDCs. They also hope to learn about using locally available resources in innovative way yet again satisfying the villagers.
One of the participants, Mr. Nishant Kumar Shah who has been deployed in Gaukharka VDC of Nuwakot said, “I have been to my duty station and have found that all of the people are still living in temporary shelters. They are waiting for the government directives and cash grant to start building their houses. However, they do not have the resources to build cement or concrete based buildings. I would therefore like to know how we can help such communities build earthquake resistant houses using the materials available there itself.”
