National Consultation Meeting of GNDR Members in Nepal held
National Consultation Meeting of Global Network of Civil Society Organizations for Disaster Reduction (GNDR) Members in Nepal held on August 22, 2017. The consultation meeting focused on gathering more specific inputs and suggestions to the GNDR Operational modalities and activities as well as to gather aspirations from GNDR and possible contributions from the members. The main purpose was to share about the GNDR, its past activities in Nepal, and to prepare inputs for the forthcoming GNDR Regional Inception Meeting.
The Global Network of Civil Society Organizations for Disaster Reduction (GNDR) is the largest international network of organizations committed to working together to improve the lives of people affected by disasters world-wide. GNDR was officially launched in Geneva during the first session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in June 2007. GNDR was established with the purpose to "Enable civil society to connect local to global and speak with a collective voice that drives action which reduces risk and increases the resilience of the most vulnerable." GNDR currently has 850 member organizations and 1400 individual members across 137 countries. From Nepal, there are altogether 63 institutions and individuals as the members of GNDR.
Since its establishment, GNDR has been working very closely with the civil society organizations at local levels in various countries. GNDR implemented the "Views from the Frontline (VFL)", the "Action at Frontline (AFL)" and the "Frontline (FL)" programs in several years to measure the status and success of implementation of Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA) at the country as well as local levels. Nepal has always been part of the GNDR Action Researches.
