First Group of Masons trained in Sainamaina Municipality, Rupandehi
First group of Masons trained in Sainamaina Municipality, Rupandehi. Total thirty seven masons working in the area participated in Seven-Day training course during September 7-14, 2017. The course comprises organized set of interactive lectures and hands-on practice on technical knowledge and skills for the earthquake resistant construction of houses. The training was organized by Sainamaina Municipality in association with National Society for Earthquake Technology (NSET). NSET provided technical support to conduct the training under the USAID/OFDA supported program "Technical Support for Building Code Implementation in Nepal (TSBCIN)".
Addressing the Closing Session and Certificate Distribution Program, Mayor of Sainamaina Municipality Mr. Chitra Bahadur Karki as the Chief Guest expressed his satisfaction to see the first lot of masons trained on safer construction practices. Mayor Karki addressed the masons and stated; "this activity was planned particularly considering demand of practicing masons and now the process has started. Being a responsible citizen and house maker, now the role of masons is more expected to help our communities get better and safer." He also shared his wish to build through collective efforts a prosperous and safer Sainamaina Municipality.
The Chair of the Ceremony and Executive Officer of Sainamaina Municipality Mr. Shashidhar Ghimire briefed on plan of Municipality to conduct more trainings and disaster preparedness activities. "We are planning for few more Mason Trainings" he remarked, and added "and also ToT for technical officers is in plan which will help us conduct activities locally".
NSET representative Mr. Khadga Sen Oli congratulated both the Municipality and trained masons for this cause. Mr. Oli highlighted on why NSET is focusing on making safer houses and what the roles masons and local governments are to play in due course of building community resilience.
Representing the voice of participants, Mr. Dharma Neupane expressed gratitude to Municipality and NSET for this worth opportunity. Mr. Neupane shared that every participant including him felt delighted to learn new and innovative ideas of making houses stronger.
Among from the consulting firms, Mr. Rajendra Sharma addressed the ceremony and remarked that the training would be very helpful to build earthquake resistant houses in the area.
The training was facilitated by trainers from NSET and technical team of Municipality coordinated for its effective execution. Co-trainer from NSET Ms. Priyanka Singh briefly reviewed the course conducted and appreciated much to have very enthusiastic participants and cooperative Municipality staff.
Municipal Engineer Mr. Suraj Neupane had delivered welcome speech; while Municipal Engineer Mr. Arun Neupane conducted the ceremony.
The Closing Program was also attended by Ward Chairpersons. On the occasion, Mayor Mr. Chitra Bahadur Karki distributed Certificates to trained masons and souvenirs to the facilitators. Also, participants offered Mementos to the facilitators. Municipality also gave Letter of Appreciation to NSET.
