Learning and Sharing Workshop on OJT held, 2004 new masons produced in Dhading


To discuss the learnings acquired through On-the Job Training, Baliyo Ghar has organized a one-day learning and sharing workshop in Nilkantha Municipality, Dhading on 23 Aug, 2018. In presence of Chief of District Coordination Committee, Mr Jagan Nath Nepal, Chair of GMALI, Mr. Rajendra K.C, Deputy Executive Director of NSET Dr. Ramesh Guragain and Managing Director of Training Center Nepal Mr. Aarna Raj Silwal, participants discussed the achievements, challenges faced, lessons learnt and needs improvement issues of OJT that was implemented in Dhading under Baliyo Ghar Program’s regular activities and with support from Training Center Nepal (TCN).

Moreover, workshop focused on essence of OJT implementation, extract learnings from the implementers, concepts of curriculum development, informed analysis of information, creative thinking for solving challenges faced and offer concrete recommendations on related topics which may ultimately help in implementation strategy of OJT or other similar kinds of program activities in the days ahead. In-depth discussion regarding indulgence of trained mason from OJT in current reconstruction and post reconstruction was also done.

Dr. Ramesh Guragain and Managing Director Training Center Nepal Aarna Raj Silwal, presented comprehensive presentations and discussions among participants about the achievements of OJT implemented in Dhading. The Chair of GMALI, Mr. Rajendra K.C on his remarks discussed the issues of on-going efforts of the government, issues, challenges and way forward for sustainable reconstruction works. He further added that, had the Training Center Nepal and NSET Nepal not worked in a collective way to produce and built these number of houses and new masons was still a hard row to hoe. He also wished wider coordination with government line agencies in the days to come.

Invited as the Chief Guest, District Coordination Committee Chair, Mr. Jagan Nath Nepal praised NSET for its endeavors in raising awareness to reduce the earthquake risk and providing helping hands for government in making resilient society. He stressed, "I appreciate NSET for undertaking OJT surge project with the saint intentions of transferring semiskilled and unskilled masons into skilled masons so that snail's pace reconstruction may curtail if product produced through this OJT utilize their knowledge and skills they have learnt without any hesitation.”

OJT is being implemented and completed in all ward of previous VDCs and municipalities of Dhading District. Training Center Nepal Pvt. Ltd. (TCN) as a Training Service Provider (TSP) has completed 227 OJT sites producing 1339 new masons. Altogether 2004 new trained masons have been produced including 665 masons produced through Baliyo Ghar’s 106 regular OJT activities. 2 more OJT activities are planned to be implemented in Dhading. It is believed that with new masons produced through OJT, masons scarce may be left behind.
