Workshop on National Building Code (NBC) Training Manual and Curricula held
A “Sharing and Validation Workshop on National Building Code (NBC) Training Manual and Curricula“ held in Lalitpur on June 16, 2022. With view to collect the feedbacks of the NBC Training manual and curricula, the workshop was jointly organized by Department of Urban Development and Building Construction (DUDBC) and USAID’s Tayar Nepal project. NSET is providing technical support to prepare the training manual and curricula.
In the brief inaugural session, Mr. Ramchandra Dangal, Director General (DG) of DUDBC highlighted the roles of DUDBC in the implementation of National Building Code (NBC), and emphasized the important role of local governments in this process. “The local governments have huge role to play in the implementation of NBC as they take leadership in the execution of the NBC in the filed while the DUDBC carries out role of facilitation in the implementation including capacity development of implementation stakeholders and promulgation of relevant policies”, Mr. Dangal mentioned.
Mr. Surya Narayan Shrestha, Executive Director of NSET urged the participants to contribute to the curricula developing process by providing important feedbacks on the manual and curricula so that the training manual and curricula could be a best document.
Speaking at the program, Mr. Tirtha Raj Joshi, Deputy Chief of Party for Tayar program welcomed the participants and shared the main purpose of this process.
Ms. Hima Shrestha, Training Implementation lead of the project, briefed the objectives of the workshop to the participants.
Ms. Rajani Prajapati, Training Manual Development lead of the project, made the presentation on the methodology of development and highlighted major contents of the manual and curriculum.
Dividing into four groups, participants of the workshop had carried out discussion on the manual and curricula and come up with comments and feedbacks. After the group discussion, one participant from each group presented their feedbacks and comments.
The half-day workshop was formally concluded with a brief closing ceremony where Dr. Ramesh Guragain, Deputy Executive Director of NSET, expressed his sincere thanks to the participants for their valuable feedback and suggestions. Dr. Guragain expressed his commitments to incorporate all the feedbacks in the manual and curricula.
Appreciating the comments, suggestions and feedback provided by the participants, Mr. Rishiraj Acharya, Under Secretary from Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration (MoFAGA), expressed his commitments to support the process by dispatching the manual and curricula to all the local levels as early as possible.
Mr. Chakrawarti Kantha, Deputy General Manager of DUDBC, clarified that the ongoing process of development of a manual and curriculum is the part of the DUDBC’s continued initiatives of NBC implementation in Nepal, adding that the manual would certainly help in effective implementation of the NBC in Nepal.
Altogether 43 engineering professionals from various municipalities and agencies participated in the workshop.
