NSET and NDRF India trains PEER Master Instructors
The National Society for Earthquake Technology-Nepal (NSET) in collaboration with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) of India organized Master Instructors Workshop (MIW), under the Program for Enhancement of Emergency Response (PEER). The MIW was conducted on December 4-8, 2013 at 03rd Bn NDRF Training Centre in Mundali, Odisha, India. The MIW aims to develop additional qualified course coordinators and course monitors from NDRF. The recently concluded MIW was supported by NDRF-Government of India and NSET through PEER Partial Funding Assistance Program. PEER is funded by the United States Agency for International Development / Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA).
Twenty-three participants successfully completed the 5-day workshop that highlights the role of PEER master instructors, PEER course coordination/implementation, monitoring, evaluation and certification system; teambuilding, problem solving and troubleshooting; networking and course reporting; and presentation of case studies that provided a platform for sharing success stories and lessons learned about disaster operations and other related initiatives among the participating groups.
During the inaugural program of the Master Instructors Workshop (MIW) on December 04, 2013, 03rd Bn NDRF Training Center, Mr. M K Yadav, Commandant of 03rd Bn NDRF, boosted the morale of MIW participants as being the most qualified to become PEER master instructors in India after a rigorous selection and training process; and emphasized that their participation in MIW is just the start of a huge task ahead of them in training of NDRF teams in their respective battalions. Since 2003, India has developed a total of 82 master instructors.
India’s NDRF is an elite group created to counter natural and human-induced catastrophes such as earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, nuclear and even biological attacks. Until date, there are 10 battalions deployed in strategic locations in India.
