Students’ Summit on Earthquake Safety, 2014 being held in Pokhara
This year’s edition of ‘Students’ Summit on Earthquake Safety -2014 has commenced in Pokhara from August 17-19, 2014. Chief Guest of the Inaugural session Dr. Dilli Ram Rimal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Education inaugurated the summit. The summit has been organized by Department of Education in association with UNICEF, Plan International, World Vision, Save the Children, Nepal Red Cross Society, Mercy Corps, World Education, Handicap International, USAID, Maiko High School Japan and NSET. Altogether 120 participants including students and teachers from 60 schools from 30 districts of Nepal and 7 students and teachers from Maiko High School, Kobe, Japan are participating 3-day long summit which is the 9th edition of this sequel. The inaugural session was chaired by Ms. DibyakalaBajimaya, Director, Western Regional Education Directorate and addressed by Dr. Amod Mani Dixit, NSET ED; Mr. Tek Narayan Pandey, Director of Department of Education; Mr. Jhappar Singh Bishworkarma, Senior Divisional Engineer, DoE; Mr. Ambika Acharya, District Education Officer and Ms. Noriko from Maiko High School, Japan.
Awareness Rally
As the first event of Students' Summit 2014, Awareness Rally has been held earlier in the August 17 morning, along Prithvi Chowk - New Road - Chipledhunga section of Pokhara, Nepal.
Mr. Tek Narayan Pandey, Director, Department of Education flagged off the Rally. Around 150 people including participants gathered for the summit from various parts of the country and also from Japan and 300 participants from local schools and DRR stakeholders walked along the main and core city areas of Pokhara. Rally concluded at Chipledunga with quick notes from Mr. Tek Narayan Pandey, Director, DoE, Dr. Amod Mani Dixit, Executive Director and Mr. Ambika Acharya, District Education Officer.
