Disaster/Earthquake Preparedness Orientation to the members of Dang District Chamber of Commerce & Industries (DDCCI)

“Disaster/Earthquake Risk Reduction and Preparedness Activities”, an awareness orientation session was organized on Thursday, 19th March, 2015 at Ghorahi, Dang. The session was locally coordinated by DDCCI with technical coordination from National Society for Earthquake Technology-Nepal (NSET) under promoting Public-Private Partnership for Earthquake Risk Management (3PERM) program supported by USAID/OFDA. The presentation was mainly diffused to the members of the Dang District Chamber of Commerce & Industries (DDCCI).

The presentation program on Earthquake Risk Reduction and Preparedness/Response Activities was covered by Mr. Surya Bhakta Sangachhe, Program Manager, 3PERM, NSET and Mr. Pradip Thapa, Civil Engineer, 3PERM, NSET. The participants were encouraged to focus on disaster preparedness activities in personal and community levels rather than panicking by the risks. In addition to the need of awareness raising on earthquake risks, the NSET presenters also briefly highlighted the need of disaster recovery of businesses and industries as well, in the post-disaster time. Developing a proactive Business Continuity Plan (BCP) would greatly help businesses to survive disaster interruption and recover from it.

Mr. Narayan  Prasad Bhusal, Vice - President, DDCCI, thanked the participants and the NSET team for creating awareness for business sector stakeholders to start earthquake preparedness, response and recovery activities. Mr. Madhav Sharma, Ex- President of DDCCI, majorly emphasized the need of massive public awareness on disaster/earthquake risk reduction and preparedness, capability building and emergency response planning. He conveyed the need of such awareness activities among the business community as well as local public.
