USAID delegates observe BaliyoGhar program activities in Dolakha
Director Mr. Hari Sastry from the Office of U.S. Foreign Assistance Resources (F) has observed reconstruction efforts progressing under #BaliyoGhar program initiated in Dolakha. USAID Mission Director for Nepal Mr. Peter Malnak and team of USAID officials also joined the learning visit.
The high level delegates first observed “Reconstruction Technology Center” that operates as a part of National Reconstruction Authority Resource Center in the district. With the guidance and support from District Development Committee Dolakha, DUDBC Division Office Dolakha, Bhimeshwor Municipality and District Level PIUs (DLPIUs) in Dolakha, NSET has established this Reconstruction Technology Center under USAID funded program #BaliyoGhar program. This center is the first of this kind operated with the view to serve with technical information, ideas and techniques for safer reconstruction and also use facilities to conducting awareness raising and capacity building activities. #BaliyoGhar Program Director Dr. Ramesh Guragain briefed on center’s concept and facilities established.
Under USAID funded #BaliyoGhar Program, NSET is providing technical assistance for safer reconstruction in 13 VDCs and 1 Municipality of Dolakha district and also in more than one-third part of Dhading and Nuwakot districts.
The high level delegates then interacted with group of social mobilizers deployed under #BaliyoGhar for mobile teams in earthquake hit areas of all program districts who are now participating in 5-Day Training on Social Mobilisation and Basic Technical Considerations for Safer Reconstruction being conducted at the Reconstruction Technology Center. Mr. Bishnu Adhikari and Mr. Pravaran Mahat from the USAID Nepal Mission Office facilitated the interaction where participants shred their field experiences and highlighted the urgency of service delivery more in organized ways to help affected people.
To conclude the visit with the impression on preliminary impacts of BaliyoGhar program, the high level delegates later travelled to Ukhubari village, one of the program localities some 5 Km. south of Charikot and observed a new house now being re-built by #BaliyoGhar trained masons. On the standing talks, working masons shared their ideas and experiences to rebuilding safer houses in the localities. Given that the number of skilled masons is increasing, the reconstruction process is expected to take a pace once enrolment and grant disbursement processes progress appreciably in the areas.
