Third TOT and Fifth Mason Training going on at Dhading
One week long Training of Trainers (TOT) program and Fifth Mason Training (MT) is going on at Dhading. This is the third series of TOT conducted under “Baliyo Ghar Program” in the district. The training has been jointly organized by Department of Urban Development and Building Construction (DUDBC), Division Office, Dhading and National Society for Earthquake Technology - Nepal (NSET) in collaboration with Nilkantha Municipality with the funding support from USAID.
The 7 day training activity focuses on the enhancement of skills and knowledge of engineers working in reconstruction. Altogether 32 new trainers are being trained, among them 27 engineers are from DUDBC-Dhading and 5 from NSET. Most of the participants are willing to learn construction of better and safer houses and the teaching skills so that they will be able to facilitate the masons in their respective VDCs.
The program was informally inaugurated by Division Chief of (DUDBC) Dilip Bhandari by addressing the participants. He delivered his remarks highlighting the processes of safer reconstruction and conveyed do’s and don’ts that the deployed engineers in assigned VDCs must incorporate at the time of enrollment for cash grant and inspection of constructed buildings.
One of the participants, Ms. Sabitri Shrestha who has been deployed in Chhatredeaurali VDC of Dhading opined about the challenges she has to face because of not taking the training beforehand and visiting the assigned VDC which resulted not being able to convince villagers as well as masons regarding earthquake resistant houses.
Similarly, Mason training has also been started in Marpak V.D.C. Dhading, from 29th May, 2016 where there are 25 masons participanting. This is the fifth mason training conducted under “Baliyo Ghar Program” in Dhading and Second in Marpak. The training is conducted under USAID funded Baliyo Ghar Program and jointly organized by Department of Urban Development and Building Construction (DUDBC), Division Office, Nilkantha Municipality and National Society for Earthquake Technology - Nepal (NSET).
