#Activity Report (BaliyoGhar, Dolakha)
Nineteenth rural masonry has concluded with the 36 trained mason at Champuja Park-4, Bhimeshwor Municipality. 7 days rural masonry training was started from 15 Sept, with the objectives of transferring the different techniques of earthquake resistant stone-mud and timber buildings in rural areas.
The closing ceremony was attended by Mr. Styalin Shrestha ex-chairman of Ward Committee Forum, Dolakha and Mr. Buddhi Bahadur Achaju Treasurer of Champuja Park Management Committee. Mr. Styalin Shrestha shared his plan to train all the masons of ward-4, Champuja area. Similarly Mr. Buddhi Bahadur Achaju thanked NSET-Baliyo Ghar team for enhancing the skills of masons of Dolakha.
After the completion of closing ceremony program singing and dancing program was organized by the participants. The lyrics about safer housing construction was penned by one of the participants Mr.Bir Bahadur Shivabhakti.
Dolakha was the epicentre of the 12 May earthquake. While the 25 April earthquake caused widespread damage to the area, the second earthquake led to more severe damages and casualties in Dolakha and other eastern districts. Altogether 50,214 houses were fully damaged, whereas 305 houses were partially damaged. Till now, only 3% houses are built at Dolakha District.According to the damage survey at Bhimeshwor Municipality, almost all the stone masonry houses were completely damaged and few of the RCC buildings were completely damaged where remaining were on slight to moderately damage.
The training course has been jointly organized by Department of Building Construction and Urban Development (DUDBC), Division Office, Dolakha and National Society for Earthquake Technology - Nepal (NSET) in collaboration with Bhimeshwor Municipality and with funding support from United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
USAID funded #BaliyoGhar program is an initiative to support the Government of Nepal’s model of owner-driven housing reconstruction following the Gorkha Earthquake. NSET is providing technical assistance to 13 VDCs and 1 Municipality in Dolakha district for safe reconstruction through #BaliyoGhar Program.
