Three Parallel Training Being Conducted By #BaliyoGhar-Nuwakot in Bidur Municipality
#BaliyoGhar- Nuwakot has been conducting 6th Mason Training of Trainers from 22 September and 7th Mason Training of Trainers from 23 September in Battar and Bidur locations of Bidur Municipality. The total of 63 engineers of DLPIU- Nuwakot and NSET technical officers are being trained. Till now #BaliyoGhar program have already trained 153 engineers and sub engineers working for reconstruction in Nuwakot District.
Similarly, 10th mason training has been conducted in Thansing of Nuwakot district dated 23 September 2016. The total of 32 participants including 2 female mason are being trained in rural masonry reconstruction in Kumalthati, Thansing-1. Till now #BaliyoGhar program have already trained 259 masons in Nuwakot District. Altogether, 3 female mason are trained by #BaliyoGhar.
The training of trainers has been jointly organized by National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) and Ministry of Urban Development-CLPIU, facilitated by District Level Program Implementation Unit. National Society for Earthquake Technology - Nepal (NSET) is providing the technical assistance for the training under funding support from United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The mason training has been jointly organized by Department of Urban Development and Building Construction (DUDBC), Division Office, Nuwakot and National Society for Earthquake Technology - Nepal (NSET) in collaboration with Thansing VDC.
The participants of the training expect to learn techniques for better and safer housing reconstruction and the teaching skills to be able to facilitate the masons in their respective VDCs. They also hope to learn about using locally available resources while following the National Building Code.
One of the participant of mason training Mr. Gopal Shrestha, 70 years, Thansing- 1 said, “I have been working as mason for 50 years now without any training so I hope to learn about earthquake resistant housing construction using necessary technique and the process.”
USAID funded #BaliyoGhar program is an initiative to support the Government of Nepal’s model of owner-driven housing reconstruction following the Gorkha Earthquake. NSET is providing technical assistance to 9 VDCs and 1 Municipality in Nuwakot district for safe reconstruction through #BaliyoGhar Program.
