Training for Instructors (TFI) Course conducted, one more lot of TFI Graduates added
One more edition of Training for Instructors (TFI) course has been completed. New TFI graduates are 28 instructors largely from three of the earthquake most hit districts; Dolakha, Dhading and Nuwakot and also from Kathmandu primarily engaged in post-earthquake reconstruction efforts.
TFI is a rigorous 5-day instructor development course. This course aims focusing on training methodology and specific personal skills that will assist potential instructors in improving their knowledge and skills to develop, present and manage effective training programs.
The course has capacitated the instructors to conduct reconstruction focused training and awareness programs in the areas more effectively and also contribute in building community resilience in long run. NSET conducted the course under USAID funded “Baliyo Ghar” program during April 25-29, 2017 at Disaster Management Training Center (DMTC), Armed Police Force, Kurintar.
Addressing Closing Ceremony of the training course, Acting Commandant of DMTC and Superintendent of Armed Police Mr. Ganesh Thapa highlighted the trainings on disaster and emergency response run by Armed Police Force at DMTC. "Providing support for Disaster Management is one of our key mandates" Thapa noted.
On the occasion, NSET Executive Director Dr. Amod Mani Dixit stressed on the need and importance of strengthening training systems and processes at local level to achieve the anticipated goal of safer reconstruction and resilient communities. Dr. Dixit remarked; "the number of qualified instructors increasing means the quality of training activities also improving significantly which is very much encouraging."
Altogether 28 participants included 6 Engineers from Bhimeshwor Municipality; Dolakha, Nilakantha Municipality, Dhading; District Level Project Implementation Units (DUDBC/DLPIUs) of Dolakha and Nuwakot and Housing Recovery and Reconstruction Platform (HRRP); and 22 Engineers and Social Mobilizers from NSET implemented Baliyo Ghar program.
Acting Commandant Mr. Thapa and Executive Director Dr. Dixit conferred the Certificates on groups of instructors and participants.
Speaking on the occasion, NSET Deputy Executive Director Dr. Ramesh Guragain expressed his hope that new TFI graduates would be able to better deliver their professional assistance in the areas of their works.
Course Monitor Mr. Arjun Timilsina, Deputy Superintendent of Nepal Police and Course Coordinator Mr. Ganesh Jimee, NSET Director submitted their course reports.
On behalf of participants, Mr. Suresh Raut, Engineer at Bhimeshwor Municipality shared his experience in brief note.
TFI was developed by the USAID/OFDA in collaboration with the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department. Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) used TFI curriculum as a component of the Program for Enhancement of Emergency Response Stage1 (PEER1) during 1998–2003. NSET used this curriculum and strategy while implementing PEER Stage2 (2003-2009), PEER Stage3 (2009-2014) and PEER Stage4 (2014-2019).
Considering the importance of the course and with the objectives of its maximum utilization, NSET is promoting this course among DRR professionals and institutions in Nepal that are interested in developing capacities and organizing non-formal training on DRR for adult population.
The TFI English curriculum has now been translated into Nepali and Bangla under the PEER program.
