First Mason Training successfully completed in Rainas Municipality - Lamjung
Ward no-5, Rainas Municipality, 17 August, 2017
The first Urban Mason Training in Rainas Municipality, Lamjung has been accomplished. Altogether, thirty three masons working in the urban area participated in Seven-Day training course conducted at Ward No-5, Rainas Municipality during August 11-17, 2017 with the objective of enhancing their technical skills for the earthquake resistant construction.
The training was organized in Rainas Municipality by Rainas Municipality in association with Sarvodhyaya Sewa Ashram, VSO Nepal and National Society for Earthquake Technology (NSET). NSET provided technical support to conduct the training under the USAID/OFDA supported program "Daro Ghar, Digo Basti".
Addressing the Closing Session and Certificate Distribution Program, Mayor of Rainas Municipality Mr. Singha Bahadur Thapa as the Chief Guest congratulated the trained masons and stressed on the fact that trained masons have big responsivities to build safe houses in the area and save lives and property during earthquakes. Mayor Thapa addressed the masons and stated; "now, your responsibility has been increased. People are in the hope of safer reconstruction. It will be one of your duty to convince house owner for building earthquake resistant houses." He also expressed his commitment to strictly enforce Building Code in the Municipality for ensuring safer construction.
One of the participants Mr. Aas Bahadur B.K. said,” this training is very well helpful for us. We came to realize the mistakes we have committed and we will correct them in the future. Problems and challenges may arise in future too but we will consult with the Municipality and trainers. We will use the skills learned here and build earthquake safe houses.”
Similarly, another participant Mr. Chhabilal Tamang said, “we were eagerly waiting for the training since last year. In the training, we have learnt about the earthquake resistant construction right from foundation to the roof. We will use all techniques learned in our practice. We will also share what we have learnt with our mason colleagues working in the various sites.”
The lead trainer from NSET Mr. Sangib Shrestha appreciated the Municipality for this initiation and extended his gratitude from NSET for considering NSET as collaborating partner. Mr. Shrestha encouraged trained masons stating, “the challenge is to construct all the buildings earthquake resistant and you can be a part of building earthquake resilient community which is your opportunity.”
On the occasion, Mayor Mr. Singha Bahadur Thapa distributed Certificates to trained masons, and CEO of the Municipality Mr. Dev Bahadur Adhikari distributed sets of construction tools. The Closing Program was also attended by Ward Chairpersons & Staff and Representatives of Sarvodhyaya Sewa Ashram, VSO Nepal.
Rainas Municipality appreciated the technical support provided by NSET and also wished to collaborate in future efforts.
