PEER adds 28 qualified community responders in Nepal
National Society for Earthquake Technology-Nepal (NSET) in collaboration with Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) organized a 4-day Community Action for Disaster Response (CADRE) course in Gaindakot, Nawalparasi, Nepal during 15-18 September, 2017. This course was conducted through the Program for Enhancement of Emergency Response (PEER) Stage 4 (2014-2019) being implemented by NSET in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Nepal. PEER is funded by USAID / Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA).
There were 28 participants from various districts of Nepal representing from Nepal Red Cross Society, Municipalities, Nepalese Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and NSET. The participants were from various districts of Nepal, namely Ilam, Panchthar, Udayapur, Ramechhap, Kanchanpur, Syangja, Gorkha, Kathmandu, Dadeldhura, Bardiya, Jhapa, representing NRCS’s district chapters. There are also participants from Damak, Dhangadi and NSET, as well as from the security forces representing Nepalese Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force. There were 9 female participants. A team of 10 instructors from PEER partner organizations, facilitated the training.
The participants have gained knowledge and skills for basic search and rescue, pre-hospital treatment, water rescue and fire response. Among 28, there were 9 female and 19 male participants. A team of 10 instructors from PEER partner organizations, with 1 NSET representative, facilitated the training. This was the second CADRE training held in Nepal under the PEER Stage 4.
Mr. Dustin Shiau, Program Officer from USAID/OFDA observed the course activities and interacted with instructors and participants.
Mr. Varun Prasad Shrestha, President of NSET, Mr. Dustin Shiau from USAID/OFDA, Mr. Hari Prasad Neupane from Nepal Red Cross Society and Ms. Maritess Tandingan, Deputy Chief of Party, PEER addressed the Closing Program of the course. Deputy Superintendent of Nepal Police Mr. Samir Chandra Kharel, CADRE Course Monitor; and Mr. Krishna Ghimire, Course Coordinator presented the course results and thanked everyone for working hard in the CADRE course.
All the participants successfully completed the course and got awarded with Certificate of Completion.
