Documentary show program held in Patan Durbar Square premises
With the view to raise the awareness of the general public on various aspects of earthquake risk management, a documentary show program covering the earthquake preparedness and response, earthquake risks mitigation, safer re/construction practices and non-structural mitigation was organized at the premises of Patan Durbar Square targeting to core city dwellers of Lalitpur on Friday evening, 26 January 2018.
The program was jointly organized by National Society of Earthquake Technology Nepal (NSET) and Community Disaster Risk Management Committee (CDRMC) of ward number 12 of Lalitpur Metropolitan City as part of 20th Earthquake Safety Day (ESD) 2018 program.
Nepal observes Earthquake Safety Day (ESD) every year on 2 Magh of Nepali Month (January 15 or 16) to commemorate the Great Nepal-Bihar Earthquake of 1934. With view to raise awareness of city dwellers/pedestrians on earthquake risk reduction and preparedness, Nepal is observing 20th Annual Earthquake Safety Day with a month long various awareness raising programs in Kathmandu Valley and throughout Nepal. The theme of the 20th ESD has been " Empowering Local Communities and Governments: Strong Foundation of Earthquake Safety.” The ESD this year focused on role of local government in earthquake risk reduction efforts in the context of state restructuring and introducing new federal set up in the country. The main function of the ESD event was held at Basantapur, Kathmandu on January 16, 2018.
The documentary show was two hours’ program. Impact of 2015 Gorkha Earthquake, Safer Reconstruction, Non-Structural Mitigation, two episodes of Telefilm “Ghar”, Public Service announcements , earthquake song among others were displayed during the show. More than 350 people including evening walkers, onlookers expected to have benefited from the program. The members of the CDRMC including the secretary, were also present at the program.
NSET has been organizing such program in association with various communities as part of awareness promotion on the earthquake risk, its mitigation measures, preparedness, as well as safe construction practices. The objective of the program was to make the commoner people aware of earthquake risk and preparedness.
