Series of PEER trainings organized in Nepal and Bangladesh
National Society for Earthquake Technology-Nepal (NSET) in collaboration with Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) and Fire Service and Civil Defense (FSCD) completed various training events under the Program for Enhancement of Emergency Response (PEER) supported by USAID/OFDA.
Community Action for Disaster Response-Training for Instructors/Instructor's Workshop (CADRE-TFI/IW) was held in Gaidakot, Nawalparasi from 14th to 21st February 2018, in partnership with NRCS. Series of PEER trainings, namely, Medical First Responder (MFR) Course was held form 26 February to 10 March 2018, Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue (CSSR) Course from 15-23 March 2018 and Training for Instructors (TFI) was completed during 13-17 April 2018, in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in partnership with Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence.
There were a total of 26 participants for the CADRE-TFI/IW course, with 4 females and 22 male participants. Among 26 participants, 24 received the Certificate of Completion, and 2 received the Certificate of Attendance. Mr. Dharma Raj Pandey, Head of Disaster Management Department, NRCS, felicitated the 24 new CADRE instructors.
Mr. Chattra Raj Pandey, Mayor of Gaindakot, appreciated NSET’s work on such trainings and looks forward to having additional capacity building efforts for Gaidakot.
Dr. Amod Mani Dixit, General Secretary, NSET and Chief of Party, PEER, in his message, highlighted the cooperation of all sectors in addressing the need for diverse disaster risk reduction and emergency preparedness trainings in Gaindakot Municipality.
PEER Courses in Bangladesh
NSET, in collaboration with FSCD, had recently developed new set of PEER MFR and CSSR instructors in Bangladesh. The MFR course was conducted on 26 February to 10 March 2018 at FSCD Training Complex, Mirpur, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Total number of participants in this course were 24 (2 female and 22 male). In this course, 19 participants received Certificate of Completion, whereas 5 received Certificate of Attendance.
MFR Course was followed by the CSSR Course conducted on 15-23 March 2018 at the same training venue. Among 24 participants (2 female and 22 male) 23 participants received Certificate of Completion while 1 participant had left the course on day 2.
TFI course was conducted on 13-17 April 2018 at the same training venue in Dhaka. Total number of participants were 25 (1 female and 24 male). Among 25 participants, 24 were from FSCD and 1 from Dhaka Community Hospital Trust. All 25 participants successfully completed the TFI and received the Certificate of Completion.
For the above courses in Bangladesh, regional PEER course monitors from Nepal were assigned, namely, Mr. Samir Chandra Kharel from Nepal Police served as the monitor for MFR Course, Mr. Roj Pratap Rana from Nepalese Army served as the monitor for CSSR Course, while Mr. Bishwa Adhikari from Nepal Police served as the monitor for TFI.
