Disaster education from Hyogo in Nepal: Closing ceremony held at Kathmandu
The Closing Ceremony for the program 'Disaster Education from Hyogo in Nepal,' was held in two levels, at the district level in Nuwakot and at the central level in Kathmandu.
On 29th August 2018, the program held in Hotel Greenwich Village was organized by National Society for Earthquake Technology-Nepal (NSET) and Team Hyogo, Japan in coordination with Centre for Human and Education Resource Development (CEHRD).
On the occasion, Mr. Ram Avatar Yadav, the principal of Chandra Nayan Basic School, Dangsing, Nuwakot expressed his gratitude to the program for the tangible support obtained in constructing a two room semi-permanent school block.
Dr. Ramesh Guragain from NSET remarked that localized curricula are very important. This program has been an example as to how the teachers can discuss their own issues and come up with their own solutions. Team Hyogo members, Professor Seiji Suwa and Mr. Genta Nakano talked about the process and project outcomes and highlighted the importance of participatory disaster education in schools.
Similarly, Mr. Chiranjivi Gautam, Director at CEHRD conveyed his commitment and continuous collaboration for Disaster Risk Reduction initiatives in the future.
Through this program, the eight schools of Nuwakot have been developed as leader schools to spread the concept of disaster education to other schools.
