Majhigaun in Dolakha district accomplishing Housing Reconstruction, almost 90% houses rebuilt
NRA CEO and U.S. Ambassador to Nepal observed the reconstruction progress in the areas
Majhigaun, a village of fishermen in Bhirkot of Tamakoshi Rural Municipality, Dolakha is about to complete housing reconstruction. Out of 56 houses identified as completely collapsed by 2015 Gorkha Earthquake, so far 53 have been rebuilt ensuring earthquake resistant elements. Government has recently enlisted 5 more houses as beneficiaries after readdressing the grievance cases. Those 5 house-owners have just signed the agreement to receive government grant amount. NSET is providing technical support to earthquake affected families in the locality through USAID supported program Baliyo Ghar.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NRA, Mr. Sushil Gyewali and U.S Ambassador to Nepal, Mr. Randy W. Berry have visited Majhigaun in their course of field visit to the district. CEO of NRA visited the place on Dec 2, 2018 while US Ambassador Berry visited the place on Dec 3, 2018. Both had interacted with the house-owners and Baliyo Ghar trained masons. Dr. Ramesh Guragain, Director to Baliyo Ghar Program and Deputy Executive Director of NSET briefed them about the status of reconstruction in the village. While the mobile team of Baliyo Ghar program reported about the socio-cultural features of Majhigaun.
CEO Mr. Gyewali and Ambassador Mr. Berry visited a house of children which was rebuilt through the OJT of Baliyo Ghar program where Alina, Alisha, Yesha along with their infant brother got opportunity to interact with. Those 4 children who lost their father before earthquake and mother after the earthquake have been are running their family with the guardianship of their uncle and aunt. Mr. Gyewali stressed the need to launch some special support program to help such earthquake affected orphans.
Both the visiting officials expressed their satisfaction to see the reconstruction going very well in Majhigaun, and they thanked local masons & Baliyo Ghar team for the support.
