A five-day program “Training on Nepal National Building Code (NNBC) for Municipal Engineers of Bhimeshwor, Neelakantha, and Gorkha Municipalities” has been conducted in Kathmandu during 21-25 April 2022. Under USAID’s Tayar Nepal, NSET conducted the training program. The main objective of the training was to develop knowledge on provisions of NBC and build the capacity of municipal engineers / technicians so that they could check and verify the design, drawing and monitor construction works as per updated NBC requirements.
Speaking at the brief closing session, Mr. Manoj Nakarmi, Senior Divisional Engineer at Building Code Section of DUDBC shared that the training has helped enhance the knowledge of participants regarding the updated Nepal National Building Code (NNBC) and translate into practice in the respected municipalities. “Since the municipalities are primarily responsible to enforce the Building Permit System in Nepal, this kind of training has transferred important skill, knowledge and information to the participants from municipalities which will ultimately contribute on compliance of Building Code in Nepal,” he remarked.
Mr. Tirtha raj Joshi, Deputy Chief of Party from Tayar Nepal highlighted the importance of the training on building Code implementation and Building Permit System in the municipalities. “This is the first of five training programs to be conducted under the USAID’s Tayar Nepal project which is designed based on updated NBC 105.The training has not only emphasized on the structural safety of a building but also focused on other aspects of house construction like land selection, plumbing and many more. Various feedbacks have been received which will be incorporated in the course and the next four trainings will be based on the updated course,” he remarked.
Dr. Ramesh Guragain, Deputy Executive Director of NSET, shared some important features of the five-day training program and its comprehensiveness. Highlighting the objectives of the training program, Dr. Guragain assured that feedbacks and comments, collected during the five-day training, will be incorporated in the final version of training course.
