Training on DRM Localization Manual for province teams and DRR trainers held in Gaidakot


A 3-day Training on Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Localization Manual, training delivery and capacity development for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) trainers affiliated to National Society for Earthquake Technology-Nepal (NSET), Lutheran World Federation (LWF), and Practical Action Consulting (PAC) has been organized in Gaidakot of Nawalparasi East during 4-6 July 2022. 

In order to provide the DRM Localization Trainings to elected leaders of the local levels across the country, a DRM Localization Manual has been developed by Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration (MoFAGA) with support from International Organization for Migration’s (UN-Migration).

A total of 41 participants including Province Coordinators, Admin Logistics, and DRRM trainers representing all the provinces were trained. The objective of the training was to enhance the capacity of the DRRM trainers to conduct the trainings to local government on DRM Localization Training Manual. During the event, the participants were briefed about the contents of the training course, methodology and admin logistics management aspects of the DRM Localization Training prior to mobilize them in the field for two-day DRM Localization Trainings across the provinces.

The DRM localization Training is the part of International Organization for Migration’s (UN-Migration) technical assistance and USAID-Nepal’s support to the Government of Nepal in strengthening the legal framework and capacity of local levels for effective and efficient disaster prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery activities.

A consortium of NSET, LWF and PAC are implementing the DRM Localization Trainings at 702 local levels of Nepal. DRR trainers are planned to conduct DRM localization trainings for newly elected local level authorities on disaster risk reduction and management with the objectives of enhancing the capacity of local level authorities.

On the occasion, senior officers from NSET, LWF and PAC remarked and encouraged to the DRRM Trainers and the team.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Ganesh Kumar Jimee, Deputy Executive Director of NSET and the project lead, thanked the participants on being part of the project as it is going to be one of the major DRR campaigns in Nepal covering all Municipalities/Rural Municipalities of Nepal. 

Mr. Gopal Dahal, Coordinator of Emergency Response and DRR Program at The Lutheran World Federation-Nepal, shared that the project is a great opportunity for imparting the Disaster Risk Management Knowledge at grassroot level. 

Mr.  Suman Chapagain from PAC wished DRRM Trainers for smooth and successful conduction of the DRR Localization trainings to newly elected leaders by utilizing the important tips learned during the training.

Mr. Santosh Pandey, Program Assistant from IOM-Nepal also urged the participants to implement the skills and learnings during the conduction of DRRM Localization Training in the field.

The training was conducted by Dr. Raju Thapa from DPNet and Mr. Chapagain, the two senior trainers having completed M-ToT. 

NSET is implementing the DRM Localization Trainings in Madhes, Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces while Lutheran World Federation (LWF) Nepal is implementing in Province no.1 and Sudurpaschim Province. Likewise, Practical Action Consulting (PAC) is implementing the training in Lumbini and Karnali Provinces.
