Disaster Preparedness and Response Plan of Lalitpur made public.
Preparing for disasters saves countless lives, speeds up people's recovery and saves money. With the objective of preventing and reducing the impacts of disasters in Lalitpur district through coordinated preparedness activities and improved response capacity, the District Disaster Management Committee- Lalitpur has made public its "Disaster Preparedness and Response Plan (DPRP), 2080" through a workshop organized in Lalitpur on Tuesday, August 15, 2023.
District Disaster Management Committee, Lalitpur prepared the plan with the technical support and co-operation from National Society for Earthquake Technology – Nepal (NSET), and Disaster Preparedness Network – Nepal (DpNet).
Speaking at the program, Mr. Rudra Prasad Pandit, Chief District Officer (CDO) and chief of the District Disaster Management committee urged to all the sectors, departments, organizations, and individuals to help implement the plan so that impending disaster risks at the district could significantly be reduced in the district.
To start with, Mr. Amardeep Sunuwar, Deputy Chief District Officer, presented the objective, importance, revision, and update regarding the content of the DPRP while Mr. Surya Narayan Shrestha, Executive Director of NSET shared and highlighted the major provisions and contents of the DPRP.
The participants of the workshop expressed their comments and suggestions on the contents of the plan after the presentations.
Speaking at the program, Mr. Hari Gobinda Shrestha, Mayor of Mahalaxmi Municipality of Lalitpur, and Mr. Bir Bahadur Lopchan, Chairman of Bagmati Rural Municipality, shared their efforts and activities relating to Disaster Risk Reduction in their respective municipalities and expressed their commitments to implement the DPRP.
The program was participated by around 70 people including members of the District Disaster Management Committee-Lalitpur, Mayor of Mahalaxmi Municipality, Chairman of Bagmati Rural Municipality, chief of the offices and departments of government of Nepal based in Lalitpur, representatives of non-governmental organizations based in Lalitpur, DRR stakeholders, Journalists among others.
