New Executive Committee of CNNC elected


The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of CityNet Nepal National Chapter (CNNC) has been organized in Biratnagar Metropolitan City on Thursday, September 7, 2023. The one-day meeting also elected a new Executive Committee of the CNNC.

The meeting has elected Biratnagar Metropolitan City as chair and Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City as deputy chair of the Nepal National Chapter (CNNC) whereas Tansen Municipality and Bheemdatta Municipality have been elected as General Secretary and Treasurer respectively. The general members of the CNNC are Pokhara Metropolitan City, Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Birgunj Metropolitan City, Jitpur-Simara Sub-Metropolitan City, Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City, Birendranagar Municipality, NSET-Nepal and INSEC-Nepal.

The AGM has also endorsed the statute of the organization and approved the annual membership fee. Apart from that, it also discussed matters regarding the upcoming 10th CityNet Congress of CityNet to be hosted by Pokhara Metropolitan City, establish of Local Disaster Risk Reduction-DRR Training and Research Center in Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City and host city for the next year's AGM. 

The meeting was chaired by Ms. Mina Kumari Lama, Mayor of Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City and chair of ad-hoc committee of the CNNC. Mr. Chiribabu Maharjan, Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, who is also a member of CityNet Executive Committee, was the Chief Guest. 

Starting the program, Mayor Santosh Lal Shrestha, General Secretary of CNNC and Mayor of Tansen Municipality extended warm welcome to all the participants while Dr. Ganesh Kumar Jimee and Mr. Suman Pradhan from NSET, the CNNC host organization, presented on the activities of CNNC and preliminary concept of Local Disaster Risk Reduction-DRR Training and Research Center respectively.

Around 70 participants including mayors, deputy mayors, chief administrative officers from the cities head of member organizations and other senior officers were present in the program including associate members.

CityNet was established in 1987. Currently, it has 154 cities and organizations associated as Full, Associate and Corporate members. CityNet Nepal Chapter (CNNC) was established in 2002. It has total 42 members including 15 full members, 6 associate members and 21 extended members.
