Building on the Capacity of the Community to Perform Search and Rescue Operations in Disaster
More than 200 Community Volunteers from different parts of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Kirtipur municipality have been prepared to perform the Light Search and Rescue Operations in case of any future disasters.
A series of Light Search and Rescue Training is being conducted at NSET premises for five wards of Lalitpur Sub Metropolitan City, Dhapakhel ward number 1, Imadol ward number 6 and seven different wards of Kirtipur Municipality.
NSET is providing technical assistance to the three days Light Search and Rescue trainings (LSAR-1002) under the program Urban WASH Preparedness and Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction supported by OXFAM. Environment and Public Health Organization (ENPHO) and Lumanti Support Group for Shelter are the organizing partners for Lalitpur and Kirtipur area respectively.
A total of fourteen trainings with twenty four participants in each have been planned under the program of which nine trainings preparing 208 LSAR Responders have been completed and five more is to be conducted within February 2013.
